Any good mobile java-based GPS-enabled driving direction software that doesn't need an internet connection?
I'm looking for driving direction software for my GPS-enabled cellphone (KRZR K1). While I found some, they all needed an internet connection from the phone to do direction searching. Is there software that do this completely offline?To be clear, I'm looking for GPS mapping software that:
- Runs on a java-enabled phone
- Provides driving directions.
- Can search for driving directions and reroute if you go off course.
- Does NOT require an internet connection from the phone, EVER. EVEN when searching for driving directions / rerouting.
- Mapping data can be updated by a PC.I know this sort of application is possible - even older versions of Microsoft Streets & Trips for Windows CE and Windows Mobile could do this. I'm just trying to find something that'll run on my phone, instead of a PDA.
I'm willing to purchase a 2gb MicroSD card to store offline maps and routing data. And while free software would be nice, I'm willing to consider paying for software.

Do you need internet to use Navizon GPS?
Hi I am just wondering if a GPS PDA phone has the same GPS system as a GPS for a laptop. I know that my lap tops GPS only cost me 0 for software and a USB locater, no other charges. So does the PDA phones use satellites for free or by the phones Internet and service antennas. Thanx.-

If your PDA has a GPS receiver, you don't really need Navizon unless you want the enhanced positioning they offer via their database of WiFi access point and cell tower locations. GPS signals do not cost anything to use. What you may get charged for with your smartphone are the maps or turn-by-turn route calculations.

I need a free America map for my Tomtom v7. I tried the "1 free map" that selectable with this software but it says: "This device cannot download a free map". Reliable street-map software for Palm PDA not requiring internet connection?
I just got my new Palm Centro (Verizon) smartphone and I need mobile streetmaps with route-mapping feature on it. Doesn't matter if it's free (open source) or not-so-free, nor does it doesn't matter if it has a desktop PC counterpart. I just need a *reliable* street map software that does NOT require the following:
1) a data plan (can't afford one right now)
2) GPS functionality (Centro doesn't have it built-in and I don't want to buy the hardware add-on)...and has the following features:
* can create routes from point A to point B with turn-by-turn directions
* can have all my maps on the Centro's SD card
* can regularly update streets/corrections on maps (via internet on desktop PC or manual "drawing" feature of some sort)...OR the maps are CONSTANTLY updated throughout the year (meaning I don't need to wait a whole year to get updated street-change info).any help is greatly appreciated! thank you.
